In this section I will explore the theme of texture and pattern. Texture is 'the feel, appearance, or consistency of a surface or a substance' and pattern is' a repeated decorative design.' Throughout this section I will take a variety of photographs on these themes in the vicinity of Castle Gardens and document my progress.
Contact sheets
These are my contact sheets for texture and pattern;
When looking for textures and patterns I took an array of photographs of things I found or things I found interesting. The first images, as seen in the first contact sheet, are a bit off with some images being out of focus or over exposed. However, as I progressed I found that my photographs got a lot better and that the quality had increased. I am particularly happy with the photographs of the conquers in contact sheet 6 as I tried to use the natural light to create an interesting image. I am also particularly happy with the photographs of the flowers in contact sheet 4 as I feel I got the focus just right after trying beforehand, to capture the detail of the dainty little flower.
Silhouettes
After exploring textures and patterns, I went on to explore silhouettes. I took a variety of silhouettes of Saffron and Paula with an array of props. Props included bunny ears, hats and a crown. To adjust the silhouettes below, I would adjust the levels of the images so that the models will be completely black and so that the background will be completely white.
These are the contact sheets for my silhouettes.
Double Exposure
These are my experiments with double exposure.
In the first image is an experiment with the background. The background image is looking upwards at a tree, giving an interesting view of the tree. Overall I think that the final image was successful for an experiment and that the texture works great with the silhouette. For the second image I decided to make the background white but keep the same texture of trees. I altered the positioning of the trees so that the tree trunks would create the allusion of veins on the hand. I feel this was a successful image.
For the first image I used a silhouette of Saffron with the background texture of bark from a tree. In this image I feel that I did not lighten the background enough and that it effected the overall success of the image. For the second image I used a silhouette of Paula and Saffron with the background texture of bricked flooring, I like this image the best out of the three images as I think is the most successful.. I also like the fact that there are two people in the image as it makes the image different from the others. For the third image I used a silhouette of Paula wearing a hat with the background texture of gravel. I like this image, particularly the texture, as I think the gravel is very interesting with different colours of stones in and amongst the greys. Overall I think that my Double Exposure work was fairly successful.
Development
This is my development for Double Exposure. Generally I found that Double Exposure was easy enough to do, however the difficulty increased as I tried new things.
